How Much Does It Cost To Play Paintball?
Urban Paintball Field
Many fields have a package deal you can get. It often includes rental of all the equipment needed(mask, gun, loader, tank), field fee, air fills(CO2, HPA), and 500 paintballs. Depending on the field and the type of equipment, the cost could range from as low as $25 to $50 or more.
It's when you start to get into a lot of paintballs that the price may start to really rise. Most fields buy cheaper paintballs at wholesale($25-$35) and sell it for $50 to as much as $100 a case(2000 rounds). This is how they pay their bills and keep the field open for you to play at.

Payment Types And Typical Costs
Ask before you go how much they charge for a case and what brand/model it is. If you're coming with a larger group see if the field would negotiate or offer you a package deal. You'll have power in numbers.
Some fields separate costs. You may have to pay $5 every time you get your CO2 tank filled. Or, the field fee maybe separate from the equipment rental fee. There is no standardized cost to paintball. Call your local field or go onto their website.
Make sure you ask if the fee is for all day play or by the hour. Many fields will either charge by the hour or offer packages that allow you or your group to play for a couple of hours. It will all depend on what you're looking for.
Staging Area
As an example, Pev's Paintball Field in Aldie, Virginia is a very popular field. Their rates(as of writing this article) for birthday parties and small groups(10+ people) are $29 per person for an hour of play. For a single person to show up at the field and play(referred to as Walk-On-Play) is $25 for all day play if you have your own equipment. If you need to rent all of the paintball gear then it's $54, that includes field access, unlimited air, 200 paintballs and all the needed equipment.
Another example is CPX in Joliet, Illinois. They are a huge field that hosts many large events in some realistic mini-cities and exciting scenario terrain. Their rates vary depending if it's open play(normal everyday play) or a special event. For walk-on-play with full rental you will pay around $40 plus paintballs. CPX has different package deals to chose from if you're showing up with a group. They offer birthday packages, cooperate outing deals and several small group options.
Our local field, Commando Paintball, is typically $45 for all day play, all the equipment you need, field pass, air, and 500 paintballs.
Also, remember there will be other costs, like gas for driving to and from the field, any clothing you may want for playing, food and drinks. Bring plenty of water and some good snacks. You'll need it!
What it all boils down to is checking with your local field before heading out for a fun day of paintball play. Be prepared and ask what types of payments they accept. Some may not take a personal check or may give you a discount for cash. Bring some extra cash and above all else, have fun!
