The all new BT SA-17 Paintball Pistol is out and ready for you to take control of the battle field. The gun's full size internals make this pistol a handful with a big enough kick to let you know your shooting a serious pistol. BT has been providing us with some of the best scenario weapons and accessories that this sport has ever seen.
If you are looking for a new paintball pistol, the BT SA-17 might just be the weapon for you. Its popularity is definitely going to become its biggest asset as aftermarket companies create accessories to populate its Picatinny rails and autococker threaded barrel tip.
Serious scenario players need the BT SA-17 in their holster.
BT Paintball Pistol
The SA-17 is a well built beast with a quick change CO2 system that is accessed by releasing the front compartment and replacing the cartridge. Each 12 gram cartridge will fire 20 rounds from the marker or two full magazines. The mag is mounted by the guns Picatinny system and can be easily removed. It has an internal feed spring that keeps the paintballs flowing into the gun. The magazine can be easily reloaded without taking it off the gun.
The gun is field legal with a full velocity adjustment and barrel blocking device. A simple 3/16 Allen wrench will set your velocity to a field legal speed.

The bolt and hammer assembly are build in a full size design and really help this pistol deliver a strong shot. This of course makes for a larger pistol and lets you feel like you have something more significant in your hand. When fired it definitely produces a large, yet manageable, kick. A higher rate of fire may not be the best idea if you are looking to do more than intimidate your opponents.
BT built the SA-17 for easy servicing, loading and unloading. It is somewhat field strip compatible, but due to its robust and simple design, your service needs should be minimal. The top mount spring loaded magazine is easy to mount or remove if the need arrives. I'm not sure about using the system like a standard replaceable magazine system for reloading. The mag is pretty easy to load, but even with a 10 round tube ready in hand, reloading could make for a stressful situation while in a shootout.

BT SA-17 Pistol
The gun does fit into most standard style pistol holsters even with the magazine attached to it's top mounted position. With accessories placed on the tactical rails, you will limit yourself to a more purpose build holster. As always, we recommend checking out the RAP4 Strikeforce vest system with the large front mounted holster. It would be the perfect place to tether your BT SA-17 pistol for quick access, even with it tricked out with all sorts of rail mounted accessories.
Of course, as usual, BT did a great job of documenting the SA-17's operation and service needs. They included a pretty good service manual that includes the gun in an exploded view, a trouble shooting section, and an easy to read parts replacement chart. The manual can be downloaded from the link at the end of this article if you want to tour the SA-17's operation and internals before purchasing it.
BT SA-17 vs. Tippmann TPX
When comparing it to the Tippmann TPX, we definitely give the TPX the tip of the hat due to it's standard pistol style magazine reloading system. However, the TPX is almost a full $100 dollars more than the SA-17's very reasonable price tag. At $120 bucks, it fits into a lot more peoples budget, especially considering it's not filling the roll of a main marker. The SA-17 still provides us with other great features that will make this a much appreciated pistol for any milsim scenario player that wants a sidearm.
